In order to become a member of the Cricket Far North Umpires’ Association (CFNUA), or if you would like to gain an umpire accreditation, you will need to do the online Community Cricket Officiating Course.
Please contact our Regional Umpire Coordinator, Julian Warnock on this email address so we know you are keen and if you have any questions.
See the steps below:
- You must have a current Working with Children Blue Card.
If you are over 18 years of age, and you do not have one, you can apply here (Blue Card Services Applicant Portal).
If you have any questions, please contact the CFNUA Secretary who will assist you.
Attaining the Blue Card can take some time, but as soon as you have registered, you are ready to move in to umpiring. - You must do the Community Umpiring online course.
a. Register in PlayCricket as an umpire.
A “How to Guide” on how to register as an umpire in PlayCricket is available here.
b. Select the Community Umpire Course.
A “How to Guide” on selecting your course can be found here.
Complete the Community Officiating Accreditation course.
c. Once you have completed the online course, you can learn how to access your certificate here.d. Queensland Cricket is currently paying the $40.00 course fee, so essentially becoming an umpire is FREE! - Attend a Face-to-Face Meeting.
There are two ways of doing these.
ONLINE: Once you have done the online accreditation course above, you will have access to your profile in PlayCricket, where you can find access to thsi training which is run by Queensland Cricket.
LOCALLY (preferred): The two options are very similar, however, the local session, run by our Regional Umpire Coordinator (RUC) incorporates more on our CFN competitions and playing conditions.
The Face-to-Face meetings inform you of the duties and responsibilities you have at each match you umpire, along with some discussion of the Laws of Cricket.
The RUC is your mentor and go-to person for any help and assistance. - Start Umpiring.
Your first few matches will be assigned with one of our experienced umpires, who will help you through the first few games. - Become Independent.
Once you are confident, let the RUC know that you feel you can umpire a match on your own, if required, and you will be off and running!!
As an umpire, you inform our Appointments Officer of your availability through OfficialsHQ, showing when you are available on the ‘leave’ page which is under the “My OfficalsHQ” menu heading. He will then assign you to a match.
We firmly believe umpiring comes AFTER your family and work. If you cannot umpire on a given weekend or even day, let the Appointments Officer know.
All fees in joining the CFNUA are deducted from your match fees, so you do not need to pay for any of the membership or uniform costs.
Payment.
You will be paid for your work at the end of each month. Your match entitlements depend upon the type of match you umpire, and whether you are umpiring with a partner or alone.
- If you are umpiring with a partner, you receive $1.37 per over.
- If you are umpiring alone, you receive $1.87 per over.
For example, if you are umpiring a 40 over match, you will be paid for 80 overs. That is $110.00 if working with a partner or $150.00 if working alone. - If you have to travel more than 45 minutes to a match from your home, you will also receive $60.00 to cover the cost of your travel.
