Cricket Far North is the official body for the governance, management, and control of cricket across the Far Northern Zone. It is affiliated with Cricket Australia through Queensland Cricket.

Our Local Competitions
Our nine affiliated clubs and associations contribute to the senior and junior Tier 3 (Ages 14-18) teams played across 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Grades and the 1st Grade Ladies. Our junior competitions are named for international cricketers who have come from our region.
The Tier 3 competition (U15 years) is named for Jimmy Maher. The other junior cricket is played in hubs around the region. Tier 2 (U13 years) is named for James Hopes, and the Tier 1 (U10 years) is named for Brendan Nash.
Geographically spread, there is a club close to most cities and towns, with excellent facilities and grounds. Check out a club near you.
Our summer season commences in mid-September and concludes around the end of March, with a short break over the Christmas period. Our Veterans Over 50 winter competition commences in May and concludes in August.
Outside of the senior and Junior competitions, each club provides for our younger players through the Master Blasters Program and Queensland Cricket’s modified forms for developing pathways for our junior cricketers. As you can see, Cricket Far North can cater for all ages, all skill levels and for all genders.
Representative Cricket
Northern Zone Championships
Organised by the North Queensland Cricket Alliance (NQCA) the Northern Zone Championships for Senior Men (Open, U23 and U18), Senior Ladies (Open) and for Junior Cricketers.
Veterans (Over 50) was introduced in 2023 and continues in the Winter season 2024. An Over 40’s representative Veterans team to play Townsville (North Queensland) has been established in 2024. For any Veterans Cricket Interest check out our page on this website.
Cricket Far North selects teams, coaches, managers and scorers for all of the competitions. Each team contests against Central Queensland, Mackay Whitsunday, and North Queensland zones, with the winning teams declared the Northern Zone Champions.
The Northern Zone Championships are funded by the Queensland Country Cricket Association and Harrop Park Country Club (Mackay) which enables our players to play in this higher level of cricket at a very low personal cost.
Bulls Masters Country Challenge
The Bulls Masters organisation is a non-profit organisation that aims to be a positive influence on people’s lives through interaction and education using their personnel as the vehicle to deliver these benefits. They visit a vast array of Queensland towns each year and raise funds to support via hospital visits, fundraising for charity, encouraging children to get active and play sport, discovering and nurturing indigenous talent and helping to improve local facilities.
We are proud to host the Bulls Master Country Challenge in the last weekend of September for the years 2022-2024 where teams from all country zones across the state play a T20 challenge series in 2 pools. The winners of these pools play off in a final at the Gabba in Brisbane. The Far Northern Fusion team won this competition on January 11, 2023, when they defeated The North Queensland Monsoons in a thrilling match.
Higher Senior Representative Pathways
Players can be selected from these championships into a pathway which takes them through representative teams for The North Queensland Country and on to the Queensland Country Teams. Funding for this is provided by Queensland Country Cricket.
Our Open Men (The Queensland Country Brahmans) and Open Women (The Queensland Country Brolgas) then contest the Australian Country Championships against the other states and Territories to take out the honour of Australian County Champions.
An Australian Country Team is announced following this competition.
Cricket Far North are proud to have had a number of players who have reached this highest pinnacle in Country Cricket in Australia.
Higher Junior Representative Cricket
Our juniors do not miss out on representative duties either with the NQCA organising Northern Zone Championships in U12A and B, U13 boys, U13 Girls, U14 boys, U15 boys and girls.
The Bulls Masters fund and coordinate the U16 boys in a state-wide competition held over 4 days. All junior representative matches are played in the first week of December, across a variety of venues. We thank the Queensland Junior Cricket Association for their funding contribution to these competitions.
